A motte-and-bailey castle once stood here — today it survives as earthworks in Shropshire. The Albion Guide lists 40 motte-and-bailey castles in the county; this is one of them. It sits inside the Shropshire Hills National Landscape.
For more of the same, Lower Lea tower keep and Hardwick castle are close by. For arrivals by rail, Broome Station is 10 km to the south-east.
