A motte-and-bailey castle once stood here — today it survives as earthworks in Shropshire. The Albion Guide charts 40 motte-and-bailey castles in the county; this is one of them. The surrounding countryside is part of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape.
For more of the same, Ludlow Castle and Corfham Castle are close by. For arrivals by rail, Ludlow Station is 3.5 km to the south-west.
Full name: Motte castle immediately north west of Middleton Chapel
