Isolated wooded hill, the county's beloved landmark.

The Wrekin rises on its own above the Shropshire plain near Wellington, a whaleback of ancient volcanic rock crowned by the ramparts of an Iron Age hillfort of the Cornovii. At 407 metres it’s a landmark for miles around, and the climb from the Forest Glen is something of a county rite of passage, passing the cleft in the rock known as the Needle’s Eye. Open hill, free. Wellington station is about 4km to the north-east.
