Places to explore in West SussexEngland · South East England

The chalk wall of the South Downs runs the length of West Sussex, ending in the sheltered creeks and mudflats of Chichester Harbour. North of the ridge the wooded Weald rises and falls in clay and sandstone. The Romans built lavishly here, and the mosaics of Fishbourne Roman Palace are the finest in Britain. Arundel Castle commands the Arun gap, Petworth House holds a great art collection in its deer park, and Iron Age people fortified the down at Cissbury Ring.
