Amberley is a village of thatched flint cottages on a lane below a ruined castle, where the Arun cuts through the chalk. The castle is now a hotel, and opposite the station sits Amberley Museum, an open-air industrial heritage site laid out in old chalk pits, founded in 1978. The wet brooks nearby are good for birds. Amberley station is about 1.5km south-west, on the Arun Valley line.
