Steyning is a market town of timber-framed houses along a long high street, set below the Downs at the foot of the Adur gap. Steyning Grammar School keeps buildings dating back to the 1600s, and Bramber with its castle ruins adjoins the town to the east. Lancing station is about 7km south.
