St Mary’s at Sompting has the only Saxon ‘Rhenish helm’ tower in England, a four-sided pyramidal cap of a kind far more common along the Rhine. Much of the rest is Norman work by the Knights Templar, who held the church from the 12th century. Usually open by day. East Worthing station is about 2km to the south.
