St James at Selham is a small downland church keeping Saxon herringbone masonry in its walls. The real curiosity is the chancel arch, whose carved capitals mix early Anglo-Saxon and Viking-influenced motifs found almost nowhere else. Usually open, though it’s tucked away down lanes with no village around it. Pulborough station is about 11km to the east.
