West Dean Gardens surround the Edward James Foundation’s college, on the edge of the South Downs near Chichester. Highlights include a 100m Edwardian pergola designed by Harold Peto and thirteen restored Victorian glasshouses in the walled kitchen garden, alongside parkland walks and an arboretum. Open daily all year, with an admission charge. The Weald & Downland Living Museum and the village of Singleton are both close by.
