The scattered village of Sidlesham lines the edge of Pagham Harbour, which was drained for farming in the 1870s until a storm breached the embankment in 1910. Down Mill Lane at Sidlesham Quay, where a tide mill was built in 1755, the Crab & Lobster restaurant with rooms sits right on the water’s edge. The RSPB runs the harbour as a nature reserve; its visitor centre is just south of the village, a short walk from the Ferry Pool and its wading birds. In winter hundreds of brent geese come in, and in summer terns nest on an island in the harbour. The beach at Pagham is across the water, and Selsey Bill is at the end of the road.
