Substantial ruinsruined, but plenty survives above ground
The largest known Roman residence north of the Alps sits under a modern museum roof at Fishbourne, its courtyard house built barely thirty years after the AD 43 invasion. Many of its original mosaic floors survive in place, including the celebrated Cupid on a Dolphin, and the museum has recreated the first-century garden’s planting beds and box hedging outside. Sussex Past runs it as a year-round museum, open daily with an admission charge. Fishbourne station is a five-minute walk away.
