St John the Baptist at Clayton has one of the fullest schemes of 12th-century wall painting in the country, a sweeping Last Judgement by the Lewes Group spread across the nave above the chancel arch. The village sits right beneath the Jack and Jill windmills. Usually open. Hassocks station is about 2km to the north.
