Leonardslee’s rhododendrons made it famous: Sir Edmund Loder began breeding the Loderi hybrids here in 1901, crossing species collected in the Himalayas, and they’re still rated among the finest in the world. The 240-acre garden also has a Pulham & Sons rock garden, seven linked lakes and a resident wallaby colony. It closed for a decade before reopening in 2019 with a Michelin-starred restaurant added. Open all year, ticketed, with St. Leonard’s Forest and Nymans both a short drive away.
