Places to explore in WarwickshireEngland · West Midlands

Landlocked at the heart of England, Warwickshire is old Forest of Arden country, its low ridges and river valleys drained by the Avon. This is Shakespeare's county, and the market towns along the river keep their timber frames and their history. Two of England's great fortresses stand here, the towering red walls of Warwick Castle above the Avon and the ruins of Kenilworth Castle, where Elizabeth I was entertained. The Civil War's first pitched battle was fought at Edgehill on the southern edge. Moated manors survive at Baddesley Clinton and Charlecote Park, and the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal threads the countryside.
