Shakespeare’s parents, John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, are said to have held their wedding breakfast here after marrying at the church next door. Whatever the truth of that, the King’s Head is a genuine timber-framed 15th-century inn on the green at Aston Cantlow, with oak beams and open fires, and it’s kept a good name for its Sunday roasts. Wootton Wawen station is a couple of kilometres north.
