The Throckmortons have lived at Coughton since 1409, and the house was a Catholic safe house during the 1605 Gunpowder Plot, when plotters’ wives waited here for news. The family still lives in the Tudor house and tends the walled garden, with its rose labyrinth, while the National Trust looks after the wider grounds, a riverside walk and a bluebell wood. Near Alcester; paid entry.
