A Benedictine nunnery founded in the 600s around the shrine of St Editha, and the monastic nave and north aisle are still the parish church that carries her name. The 14th-century gatehouse stands across the churchyard; beyond the church and some restored cloister footings, not much else is left above ground. The Coventry Canal runs below the village, and Alvecote Priory is two miles along it.
