Stoneleigh Abbey began as a Cistercian monastery, though almost nothing of that survives above ground — what you see today is largely the grand baroque west wing built for the Leigh family in the early 1700s, beside the River Avon near Kenilworth. Jane Austen’s cousin inherited the house in 1806 and she stayed here soon after; some readers spot its grounds in Mansfield Park. The house is seen only on a guided tour, several running daily, with the grounds and a Repton-designed riverside walk open separately. It’s closed some days for private functions, so check before a special trip.
