Joseph Paxton, the designer behind the Crystal Palace, laid out this cemetery in 1847 as one of the earliest examples of the ‘garden cemetery’ movement — a burial ground meant to double as a public park. It holds a mass grave for victims of the 1940 Coventry Blitz among its Victorian monuments and arboretum. Free to walk in daily, run by the city council, with volunteer-led tours on offer from time to time. Coventry station is under a kilometre away.
