Places to explore in West YorkshireEngland · Yorkshire and the Humber

West Yorkshire climbs from the industrial valleys of the Aire and Calder onto high Pennine gritstone moor. Wool and water built it. The model village of Saltaire grew up around Salts Mill, now a World Heritage Site, and Halifax kept its great cloth market, The Piece Hall. Above the mill towns rise the Brontë moors, reached from Haworth and crossed to the ruined farmhouse of Top Withens. Ilkley Moor carries Bronze Age carvings and the gritstone Cow and Calf rocks above Wharfedale.
