Ripponden is a winding stone village on the River Ryburn, built around a packhorse bridge and the Old Bridge Inn beside it — a Grade II-listed pub dated to 1307 and reckoned one of the oldest in Yorkshire. Good walking climbs out of the valley in most directions. Sowerby Bridge station is about 5km to the north-east.
