Carpet manufacturer Francis Crossley gave this park to Halifax in 1857, after being struck by the public parks he’d seen on a trip to America. Joseph Paxton and Edward Milner laid it out, and it’s reckoned one of the best-preserved Paxton parks anywhere — fountains, lakes, a sundial and the Grade II* Crossley Pavilion, all restored after a 1990s renovation. Free to walk in any time. Halifax station is about 1.3km east.
