Cragg Vale claims the longest continuous road gradient in England — 968 feet of climbing over five and a half miles up out of the Calder Valley. That made it a natural choice for the 2014 Tour de France, and it still draws cyclists grinding steadily up towards the moor. Mytholmroyd sits at the bottom of the climb; its station is about 3km away.
