Stoodley Pike is a 121-foot stone obelisk on the moor above the Calder Valley, finished in 1856 to mark the end of the Crimean War — an earlier monument here had celebrated the defeat of Napoleon. A dark spiral stair of 39 steps climbs inside to a balcony with a big view down the valley. It’s reached only on foot, with the Pennine Way running right past; Hebden Bridge station is a few km to the north-east.
