Branwell Brontë drank at the Lord Nelson in Luddenden, a stone village pub beside St Mary’s church. An early subscription library once ran in an upstairs room, which the young Brontë is said to have used. It still pours a good pint and does food. Mytholmroyd is the closest station, under 3km to the west.
