Halifax Minster took its present 15th-century shape around 1450, and much of the atmosphere comes from the Jacobean box pews of the 1630s that still fill the nave. Look for the ornate medieval font cover, among the finest in the country, and the rediscovered gravestone of diarist Anne Lister, now set in the south aisle. Open most days, a short walk from Halifax station.
