Grand Georgian cloth hall around a piazza.
Opened in 1779 with 315 rooms around a vast colonnaded courtyard, the Piece Hall in Halifax is where handloom weavers once brought their “pieces” of cloth to sell — the last survivor of Yorkshire’s great Georgian cloth halls. Beautifully restored, it now holds independent shops, cafes and open-air concerts in the courtyard. It’s free to wander in, a few minutes’ walk from Halifax station.
