Ilkley is a refined moor-edge town on the Wharfe, and the gateway to Ilkley Moor of the song. The path up from town leads to the Cow and Calf, a big gritstone crag popular with climbers and scramblers, and on to White Wells, an old plunge-bath spa. There’s a restored lido for summer swimming, and a Bettys on the Grove. The station sits in the centre of town.
