Ilkley Moor is the heather upland of the old song “On Ilkla Moor Baht ’at”, rising south of the town. Cross it and you pass the Twelve Apostles stone circle and cup-and-ring rock carvings left by prehistoric people. It’s open-access moorland with paths up from Ilkley and from the Cow and Calf — wear boots and take a map, as the tops are exposed and the weather turns quickly.
