Nostell Priory is a grand Palladian house built from 1733 for the Winn family, designed by James Paine and later extended by Robert Adam. Inside is one of the finest Chippendale furniture collections anywhere, made specially for the house, alongside a Brueghel and an early Hogarth. The National Trust looks after it now, with a lake and parkland to walk round outside. House and garden keep seasonal hours with an admission charge, though the wider parkland stays open longer. Farmer Copleys farm shop is a short drive away, and Newmillerdam makes another good walk nearby.
