Wetherby is a handsome Georgian market town on a bend of the Wharfe, roughly halfway between Leeds and York on the old Great North Road. There’s a weir and an old bridge below the high street, riverside walks, and a racecourse just outside. It has no station of its own — Cattal, about 9km to the north-east, is the nearest.
