Spofforth is a stone village between Harrogate and Wetherby, best known for its ruined castle — a fortified manor house once held by the powerful Percy family and now in English Heritage’s care. The old railway line through the village has been reworked into a walked and cycled greenway. Pannal station is about 4km to the west.
