Harrogate made its name as a spa, and it still feels like it. The wide green sweep of the Stray runs right up to the centre, the Valley Gardens are laid out below the town, and grand Victorian hotels line the streets. You can still take the waters, after a fashion, at the restored Turkish Baths, and Bettys does its famous afternoon tea. RHS Garden Harlow Carr is a mile or so west. The station sits in the middle of town.
