Ripley’s estate village was almost entirely rebuilt by the Ingilby family in the 1820s, but All Saints’ Church was one of the older buildings they kept. It stands beside Ripley Castle, where Oliver Cromwell billeted himself the night after the Battle of Marston Moor in 1644 — reputedly held at gunpoint in the library by Sir William Ingilby’s sister. An unusual medieval weeping cross survives in the churchyard. Usually open during the day; Harrogate station is about 6km to the south.
