Set on the slope above the River Nidd, St John the Baptist’s is Knaresborough’s parish church, with roots going back to around 1100 when the Norman castle was raised nearby. It’s the largest church in the town, and inside are monuments to the Slingsby family, longtime landowners at Scriven Hall. Open most days. Knaresborough station, with its viaduct across the gorge, is only a few minutes’ walk to the west.
