A motte-and-bailey castle once stood here — today it survives as earthworks in West Yorkshire. The Albion Guide maps three motte-and-bailey castles in the county; this is one of them. Other castles nearby include Rothwell Castle and Castle Hall Hill motte. For arrivals by rail, Wakefield Westgate Station is 1.1 km to the north.
