Places to explore in MorayScotland · Highlands and Islands

Between the Cairngorm foothills and the Moray Firth lies a fertile lowland, the Laich of Moray, with the Spey running fast to the sea through the heart of malt-whisky country. Its distilleries cluster around Dufftown and the Speyside Way. The coast mixes fishing towns with rock and sand, from the sea arch of Bow Fiddle Rock at Portknockie to the wide dunes at Findhorn. History runs deep too. The roofless Elgin Cathedral was once called the Lantern of the North, the Pictish Sueno's Stone still stands carved at Forres, and Duffus Castle sinks slowly into its Norman mound.
