Tomintoul sits high in the hills of the Glenlivet estate country, some of the loftiest whisky ground in Scotland, and styles its malt “the gentle dram”. There’s a visitor centre with paid tours. It’s remote — no railway near, and the roads in cross open moor, so check the weather before you set off in winter.
