When the 1823 laws made legal distilling possible, George Smith took the first licence in the glen and founded The Glenlivet in 1824, having distilled quietly before that. It’s still here in the Livet glen, with a visitor centre and paid tours that end in a tasting. It’s a fair way from any station, so you’ll be driving in.
