Mortlach Parish Church at Dufftown traces its story back to a monastery said to have been founded by St Moluag around 566, which would make it one of the oldest Christian sites in Scotland. In the churchyard stands the Battle Stone, a Pictish cross-slab carved with a cross and animals. The present church is much rebuilt but still in use, and open to visitors.
