It was at Garmouth in 1650 that the exiled Charles II landed and signed the Covenant before his march south. Today it’s a quiet village near the Spey mouth, best known as the start of a walk over the old Spey Viaduct, a long iron railway bridge that now carries the Speyside Way across the river. Elgin station is about 12km to the west.
