Lossiemouth has two fine beaches, an east and a west, split by the mouth of the Lossie and a harbour with a busy marina. It was the birthplace of Ramsay MacDonald, Britain’s first Labour Prime Minister, and it remains a forces town: RAF Lossiemouth, just west of the beaches, is one of the RAF’s main operational stations. Elgin station is about 9km to the south.
