The little town of Burghead sits on a headland that once held one of the largest Pictish forts in Scotland. Down among the houses you can visit the Burghead Well, an early rock-cut chamber, while the point itself gives wide views over the Moray Firth. All free and open; Elgin is about 12km to the south-east.
