Pluscarden Abbey is a working Benedictine monastery in a wooded glen west of Elgin, founded in 1230 and restored to monastic life last century after centuries as a ruin. The monks keep the daily round of services in the medieval church, and visitors are welcome to sit in, wander the grounds or stay on retreat. Open daily, free to visit.
