A remote Cairngorms Munro whose broad summit plateau is studded with granite tors, the highest needing a scramble to stand on
Open accessin a National Nature Reserve open to the public
Beinn Mheadhoin means “the middle hill”, and it sits right in the heart of the Cairngorms above Loch Avon, ringed by higher neighbours. It’s a Munro, a Scottish hill over 3,000 feet (914m), at 1183m, and its oddity is the summit: the broad granite plateau is studded with tors, weathered rock outcrops, and the highest of them needs an easy scramble to stand on the true top. Deep in the range as it is, there’s no short way up, and it is usually reached on a long round from the Cairn Gorm side or over Ben Macdui, across rough and remote ground. Full mountain kit and navigation are the order of the day up here.
