Rothiemurchus is a working Highland estate of old Caledonian pinewood, farmland and river just outside Aviemore. You can wander the waymarked trails and the shore of Loch an Eilein, with its ruined island castle, for free, browse the farm shop, or book onto activities like fishing and clay shooting. It’s close to the station and makes a good day out in the Cairngorms whatever the weather’s doing.
