Cairngorms is a National Nature Reserve in Highland, covering 260 km². The county has 18 National Nature Reserves; this is one. None of the National Nature Reserves in the county is larger. The surrounding countryside is part of the Cairngorms National Park and the Cairngorm Mountains National Scenic Area.
