Places to explore in StirlingScotland · Central Scotland

Stirling stands where the Lowlands give way to the Highlands, its castle rock guarding the lowest crossing of the River Forth. Two battles that shaped Scotland were fought within sight of it, at Bannockburn and below the National Wallace Monument. West of the town the country turns mountainous fast, into the lochs and crags of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs, where Ben Lomond rises above the water and steamers still cross Loch Katrine. Doune Castle, a favourite of film crews, holds the strath between.
