The Church of the Holy Rude stands just below Stirling Castle and is one of very few churches in Britain to have hosted a coronation: the infant James VI was crowned here in 1567, with John Knox preaching the sermon. The present building is largely 15th and 16th century, on foundations far older. It’s open to visitors seasonally, and Stirling station is about 600m to the east.
