Dunblane is an old cathedral town on the Allan Water, its cathedral — part 13th-century — long counted among the finest medieval churches in Scotland and much admired for its west front. The cobbled streets around the cathedral close make a pleasant wander, and there’s a small museum by the kirk. The station is on the main line, with fast trains to Stirling, Perth and beyond.
